Dal fry
Ingredients:
- 1/4 Cup moong dal
- 1/4 Cup masoor dal
- 1/8 Cup channa dal
- 4 tbsp clarified butter
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp asafetida(hing)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 Tomato(chopped)
- 1 Onion(chopped)
- 1/2 tsp garlic(grated)
- 1/2 tsp ginger(grated)
- 2 tsp coriander leaves(chopped)
Method:
- First combined toor and chana dal. Washed them thoroughly and soak in enough water for 30 minutes.
- Pressure cook the dal in 3 cups along with turmeric powder and salt cook for 2-3 minutes whistles until they are soft but not to mash.Then little mash them with back of spoon.Now my dal is ready..See how it looks to begin.
- Heat a clarified butter or ghee.
- Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds and red chilies.Once they start pop and start crackling.Add asafetida and Just stir it.
- Now add onion.Once they turn to translucent,add chopped ginger-garlic,green chilies and some coriander leaves.Cook 2 minutes.
- Now its time for add chopped tomato cook until they are soft also add all dry spices(red chilies powder,garam masala powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder and cumin powder)mix it nicely.Cover the lid and let it cook for 1 minute.
- After 1 minute open the lid and you can see the tomatoes and all spices are nicely cooked.
- Now pour prepare cooked dal then give it a good mix..
- Add salt to taste.
- Add 1/4 cup of water.Dal fry usually has a medium to thick consistency.So add just a amount of water as you desire.Stir occasionally.
- My dal has been simmering for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the flame and take out in serving bowl.Garnish with some coriander leaves leaves.
